About this role

The Nurse Manager assumes 24-hour accountability for unit management and the quality of patient care on designated unit(s) within Springfield Memorial Hospital and Nursing Division mission, vision, strategic priorities and goals. Utilizing a shared leadership philosophy, they create and maintain a work environment conducive to effective communication, collaboration, teambuilding and nursing professionalism. They ensure the enculturation of the Magnet Program requirements on the unit.

The Cardiovascular Intensive Care (6C) unit provides care for open heart, thoracic and lung volume reduction surgery patients, as well as those with ruptured AAA and esophagectomies. Staff deliver postoperative care for complicated vascular procedures and post-cath-lab care for acute MI. This is an extremely fast-paced ICU environment with many IV inotropes and other drips, ventilators, chest tubes, IABP, Impella, temporary pacemakers and dressings.

The Nurse Manager assures that care provided on the unit is appropriate to the age of the patients served and that staff are competent to provide safe, quality, evidence-based nursing care. They maintain positive physician and interdepartmental relationships as well as positive employee morale. This role fosters a professional nursing environment aligned with Magnet standards.

Opportunities exist to lead in a high-acuity cardiac ICU setting, promoting nurse-sensitive quality indicators and regulatory compliance. The position supports progressive leadership development in acute care nursing management. It emphasizes shared governance and continuous improvement in patient outcomes.

Requirements

  • BSN required; Master’s degree preferred
  • Current Illinois RN licensure required
  • Holds national specialty nursing certification in clinical area or nursing administration, or completes within 24 months of assuming role
  • At least three years experience in acute care nursing as a registered nurse with demonstrated progressive leadership/management skills
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program model and standards
  • Demonstrated understanding of nurse-sensitive quality indicators and basic hospital/nursing regulatory requirements
