The Neonatal Nurse Practitioner works collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team, providing comprehensive, age-appropriate care to well and ill patients in the NICU unit. Responsibilities include educating patients and intervening in acute or chronic illness within the scope defined by education, certification, and institutional guidelines. Affiliate staff privileges are granted and reviewed by the Johns Hopkins Medical Board.
Daily caseload involves 6-14 patients with rotating 12-hour day and night shifts from 7am-7:30pm or 7pm-7:30am. Facilitate evidence-based care using the nursing process, policies, and protocols of Johns Hopkins Hospital. Provide direction to team members to promote quality, safety, and excellence.
Work with multidisciplinary teams to support quality initiatives and foster a clinical environment of service excellence. Participate in research activities and quality improvement relevant to neonatal specialty. Implement initiatives directed by nursing and medical leadership for ongoing professional growth.
Requirements
- Master's degree and/or DNP from an accredited school of nursing
- Completion of accredited NP program in neonatal specialty
- Current Registered Nurse and NP licensure in the state of Maryland
- Current certification as NP in neonatal specialty by the State of Maryland
- Clinical skills in area of certification
- Advanced research knowledge, including interpretation, utilization, and conduct
- Analytical ability to diagnose patients and develop plans for acute and chronic health management
- Advanced interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with interdisciplinary health care team
Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive and age-appropriate care to well and/or ill patients in the NICU
- Facilitate and coordinate programs providing evidence-based care based on the nursing process, policies, procedures, and protocols
- Provide direction and management to other team members to promote quality, safety, and excellence in care
- Work collaboratively with and provide leadership for a multidisciplinary health care team
- Participate in promoting and identifying quality improvement initiatives in clinical, financial, and operational areas
- Initiate and participate in research activities relevant to neonatal specialty
- Implement initiatives in area of specialty as directed by nursing and medical leadership
- Foster a clinical environment of service excellence with daily caseload of 6-14 patients
