New Graduate RN - Critical Care Nurse Residency

1w

Medical University of South Carolina

Charleston, US · Full-time · $60,000 – $75,000

About this role

The Critical Care Residency Program is a supervised rotational residency tailored to the needs of the New Graduate Nurse. This program’s goal is to foster nurse growth and critical care skills in a team-oriented environment. Nurses rotate through units including 4E PCU, 4T PCU, 4H IICU, MICU, and CICU.

In 4E PCU, a 12-bed unit provides intermediate-level care for clinically stable patients requiring close observation, advanced monitoring, and skilled interventions. Nurses manage continuous telemetry monitoring, complex medication infusions, high-flow oxygen therapy, bedside EEG, trach patients, and peritoneal dialysis at 1:3 or 1:4 ratios.

4T PCU delivers scheduled hemodynamic and cardiac monitoring every four hours for moderately complex conditions, including noninvasive ventilation like BiPAP or CPAP. 4H IICU offers continuous monitoring for trach vents, neurological disorders, alcohol withdrawal (CIWA), fluid imbalances, and peritoneal dialysis, emphasizing early intervention to prevent escalation.

MICU cares for critically ill patients with sepsis, respiratory failure, shock, renal failure using mechanical ventilation, vasopressors, invasive monitoring, and dialysis at 1-2:1 ratios. CICU specializes in cardiovascular conditions such as acute coronary syndromes, cardiogenic shock, and advanced heart failure in a growing 8-16 bed unit.
