The J5-3 unit is a 24-bed cardiovascular telemetry unit specializing in post-open heart, surgical, and ventricular assist device patients. This fast-paced unit provides excellent opportunities in nursing growth and development.

As a PCNA, coordinate with fellow caregivers to create a welcoming, healing and warm environment for patients caring for those undergoing innovative procedures. A caregiver in this role works nights from 7:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m. providing direct support under RN supervision.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
Nursing students required to have BLS through AHA prior to hire
Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) considered
State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) preferred
Requires full body motion to move and lift patients
Manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination
Involves extensive standing and walking; Medium Work exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally

Responsibilities

Provide or assist with patient care under the supervision of an RN
Obtain vital signs, weight, pulse oximetry, and point of care testing
Assist patients with personal care and activities of daily living
Perform patient transfers and transport
Apply external monitoring devices and perform dressing changes
Remove urinary Foley catheter
Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to an RN
Assist with keeping patients’ rooms clean and orderly
