About this role
Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The Psychiatric Liaison Nurse works within the Emergency team and Mental Health Reassessment and Observation Unit (ROU-HSC). Provides mental health expertise in patient assessment, suicide risk assessment, care planning, intervention and evaluation.
The Psychiatric Liaison Nurse delivers support and mental healthcare to Emergency Department patients and families experiencing stress or crisis. Offers consultation and support to patients primarily assigned to an ED nurse. Operates within the Emergency Department, Mental Health Observation Unit and the Facility.
This role integrates with the Emergency team in a dynamic clinical environment at Health Sciences Centre. Functions in the Adult Psych Emergency Nurses department under Shared Health. Involves collaboration across units for comprehensive patient care.
Position supports acute mental health needs in a high-volume emergency setting. Builds on expertise in crisis intervention and community resources. Contributes to patient-centered services through specialized psychiatric liaison.
Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years recent acute mental health experience required
- Previous experience in an Emergency Department preferred
- Demonstrated competence in psychiatric assessment within a biopsychosocial framework
- Experience in crisis intervention, therapeutic communication, co-occurring disorders
- Awareness of community resources for clients with psychosocial, psychiatric and chemical dependency needs
- Graduate of an approved School of Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing required
- Registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM) or College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Manitoba (CRPNM) required
